Petit point is a type of canvas embroidery on a very fine scale. The stitch used is sometimes called tent stitch and is likened to a half cross stitch. The stitches are worked in diagonal or horizontal rows in a uniform manner to ensure the pull of the thread at the front is consistent.

Petit point was widely used in France in the 17th and early 18th centuries, especially for pole screens and upholstery covering.
