Tapestry Kits
Tapestry and needlepoint are closely related but are completed using different techniques.
Tapestry uses small diagonal stitches, like a half cross stitch, following the printed design on the canvas. This is called tent stitch. Tapestry is traditionally woked in wool.
Modern tapestry has replaced the original roots of tapestry where the design was woven on a loom. In the 16th century, people began stitching the way we do now using the stitching techniques to complete a more affordable option.
Needlepoint uses the same canvas but with a wider variety of stitches, creating texture and interest.
Some of the tapestry kits we sell can be completed either with tent stitch (half crosses), so tapestry or using a variety of stitches, which are clearly detailed, therefore carrying out needlpoint.
